About Us:

Launched in 1923, Waverly is a home fashion and all encompassing lifestyle brand and one of the most recognized names in home furnishings. Its signature look is expertly translated into countless classic styles among home furnishing products including fabrics, wall coverings, bedding, window treatments, decorative accessories and other key products. Its family of brands consists of Waverly, Waverly Home, Waverly Home Classics, Waverly Baby, Waverly Celebrations, Waverly Inspirations and Waverly Sun N Shade. Key vendor partners include PK Lifestyles, York, Ellery Homestyles, and Nourison. Iconix Brand Group bought Waverly in Nov 2008.

F. Schumacher amp; Co., a maker of exclusive European fabrics, launched Waverly in 1923 to bring home décor to the emerging market of American consumers who desired accessible style. The first collection consisted of eight patterns by American designer Cy Clark, and its instant popularity led to a rapid expansion of the line. The name Waverly Bonded Fabrics in 1926, and F. Schumacher hired advertising firm J. Walter Thompson to develop a promotional campaign, making Waverly synonymous with the American home since the Roaring Twenties. Waverly responded to consumer requests with the addition of its coordinating wallpapers in 1939 and the Waverly Home Fashions division in 1951, bringing its fabric collections to a gamut of home furnishings. The “Waverly Signature Look,” including the company’s famous Glosheen chintzes, florals, stripes, and plaids became synonymous with American décor, evolving into a legacy which represents quality and timelessness.

Welcome to the CIEP

A statement by the CIEP Council and THE CIEP Anti-Racism Working Group, 13 August 2021

  • As a UK chartered body representing an international membership of editors and proofreaders, the CIEP stands with, and condemns the racist abuse of, the authors of colour who have highlighted slurs, stereotyping and other problems in Kate Clanchy’s book Some Kids I Taught and What They Taught Me.
  • The CIEP is committed to doing whatever it can to help dismantle systemic barriers faced by writers of colour, and by those of other backgrounds and identities too often still marginalised and underrepresented in publishing. Challenging books and other published materials that perpetuate racism and other misrepresentations and stereotypes, intentionally or otherwise, is a vital part of that.
  • Editors and proofreaders can play an essential role in this. We are intermediaries between authors and their anticipated readership. We can highlight potentially harmful or problematic language and depictions, suggest alternatives, and alert publishers to the damage they do if they allow such things to get into print.
  • The CIEP is striving to provide resources and other support to enable our members to edit consciously and inclusively, to ensure diversity among editors is recognised as a strength, and to empower editors of colour to be heard, alongside writers of colour, in and beyond the publishing industry.

To find out more about where we stand, take a look at our ongoing equality, diversity and inclusion work.
